5 Foods that Lower Testosterone Levels

Testosterone has a role that is not playing games, one of which is often associated with determining male sex drive. So no wonder, many men are competing in various ways to maintain testosterone levels in the body. Unfortunately, instead of optimizing the amount, male testosterone levels can be reduced due to incorrect selection of daily food. Anyway, what foods trigger a decrease in testosterone?

List of foods that make male testosterone levels low

Male testosterone levels are not always in sufficient quantities. There are times when this important hormone drops dramatically which then has a major effect on your body’s health and sexual life.

Before blaming yourself for this, try to remember again whether you often eat several types of foods that can affect the amount of testosterone in the body?

In fact, there are some foods that can unwittingly trigger a decrease in male testosterone levels, such as:

1. Vegetable oil

Canola, corn, palm oil, and other types of vegetable oil are predicted to contain polyunsaturated fatty acids which fall into the category of healthy fat sources.

But on the other hand, a study in the Nutrition and Cancer Journal shows that the use of vegetable oil can gradually reduce male testosterone levels.

Even so, further research is needed to further ascertain the effect of vegetable oil on the level of testosterone in the male body, of course in a larger population.

2. Flaxseed

Flaxseed is a member of a family of grains that are rich in healthy fats, fiber, and various important vitamins and minerals. Flaxseed may be the recommended food for men with prostate cancer who must reduce levels of androgen hormones, such as testosterone, in their body.

But for men with normal testosterone levels, eating flaxseed in excess amounts can have an impact on decreasing testosterone levels. This is because flax seeds contain lignan compounds that are able to bind testosterone and then remove it from the body.

Evidenced by a 2007 study from Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research, routine consumption of flaxseed supplements can reduce testosterone levels in women with PCOS, who experience excess testosterone levels.

3. Mint herbal tea

A study published by Phytotherapy Research found that women with PCOS will experience a significant decrease in testosterone levels if they drink mint herbal tea regularly.

Women with PCOS generally have serious problems due to the lack of production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone, but high in the hormone androgen (male sex hormones). Finally, it disrupts the female reproductive system.

4. Artificial food

Processed food has been processed in such a way as to be given additional sodium, calories, and sugar, which further enriches its taste. That is why most people cannot resist the temptation of this one food.

But unfortunately, processed food is one source of high trans fat that is often associated with the risk of heart disease, diabetes, to obesity.

Not only that, a group of scientists from the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, found a new fact that frequent consumption of trans fats can lead to reduced levels of testosterone in the male body.

In fact, the testicular volume of men will decrease, accompanied by reduced sperm production. Over time, this condition can trigger a decrease in testicular function.

5. Licorice root (sweet root)

Licorice root is a basic ingredient that is usually used as a sweetener for sweets and drinks. Licorice roots include herbal plants which are often mixed with astragalus roots in their use, and are believed to be effective for treating chronic diseases.

Even so, some studies have found that licorice root can affect testosterone levels. There is approximately a 26 percent decrease in the hormone testosterone in the body after routinely consuming licorice root for one week.
